My farm is a small beef and dairy cow operation. My herd consists of registered Milking Shorthorns, Angus, and Herefords. I currently lease cows to local 4-H participants who work with those animals throughout the year to gain experience within the agriculture industry. I have also worked on a variety of dairy operations over the years including the small family dairy where I keep some milk cows as well as a few large dairy operations where I did herd health work for the animals I cared for.
I did not grow up on a farm. It is something I was introduced to at a later age when I joined 4-H in my hometown. When I was introduced to agriculture, I grew a love for dairy and beef cattle which has turned into a passionate career of taking care of cattle in all stages of life. Working in agriculture is a rewarding career that drives me to get up every day. That’s why I choose farming and animal agriculture.
One thing about farming I have learned and would like to share with others is that farming is so much more than the physical strength you bring to the table. Yes, you’ll grow some muscle but problem solving, handling doubt and dedication is a strength that is needed just as much in agriculture!
