Dairy Farming: Enhancing Water Quality and Reducing Emissions
In February 2025, Governor Kathy Hochul announced over $15.8 million in funding to assist 22 farms through the Concentrated Animal Feeding Operation (CAFO) Enhanced Nutrient and Methane Management Program. This initiative supports dairy farmers in implementing projects that protect water quality and mitigate climate change. The practices supported by this initiative reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The estimated reduction is equivalent to removing approximately 28,651 gas-powered vehicles from the road annually. 
Beef Farming: Recognizing Environmental Stewardship
New York’s beef farmers are also making significant strides in sustainability. Angus Glen Farms in Watkins Glen was honored as a regional winner of the 2024 Environmental Stewardship Award by the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association. The farm employs cattle to improve soil, forest, and forage health through practices like daily rotational grazing. Additionally, they implement silvopastures, which integrate trees, pastures, and livestock grazing to enhance environmental benefits.
