Fall on the Farm

Nov 16, 2020 | Announcements

Fall is a remarkable season in the Northeast. New York State is known for having some of the most beautiful fall foliage. For some, fall is a season that is perfect for oversized sweaters, pumpkin spice lattes, apple picking, and jumping into a pile of crunchy leaves. For others, this crisp season provides a relief from the summer heat and for many parents, it provides some much-needed quiet time as school age children return to the classroom. For many, autumn symbolizes that winters arrival is quickly approaching. The process of preparing homes, farms, and land for the cold and snowy time of year is not an easy job but one that is done each year on farms across the state.

Fall is a special season for farmers here in NY. Not only is it breathtakingly beautiful, but it also comes with a sense of calmness and satisfaction as it draws to an end. Early autumn is hectic; tractors and farm machinery buzz up and down country roads, working diligently to harvest crops that farmers use to put-up high-quality feed for their animals, or to meet the demands of food for our growing population. Either way, Fall on the Farm is a busy time for farmers and their families.

We asked our NYS animal agriculturalists to submit photos from around their farms during the 2020 fall season. We received numerous breathtaking landscapes, happy animals enjoying the cool mornings, and many hardworking farmers finishing their yearly harvest. We hope you enjoy these beautiful views of rural America, just as much as we love living here.

*The photos included in this post were taken by various NYS farmers and submitted for NYAAC to use in their Fall on the Farm photo blog.
