A Farmer’s Christmas Wish List

The holidays may bring twinkling lights, decorated trees, and a warm cup of cocoa for most people—but on farms across New York, the season comes with its own special cheer. Winter chores, festive traditions, and the everyday hustle of caring for animals all mix together to create a unique kind of Christmas spirit. Sometimes we must celebrate the lighter side of farm life, and what better way than with a Farmer’s Christmas Wish List?

Because let’s be honest: between thawing water lines and keeping barns cozy, farmers have a few holiday wishes of their own!

1. A Self-Feeding, Self-Milking Cow (A Farmer Can Dream!)
   Cows may be incredibly cooperative, but they haven’t quite mastered the art of managing themselves. A cow that feeds, waters, and milks herself on schedule? That’s the kind of Christmas magic farmers would happily believe in.
2. A Snowblower With a Sense of Humor
   Farmers spend a lot of time moving snow—off driveways, feed alleys, silage pads, barn doors, and sometimes off the tractor seat itself. A snowblower that cracks jokes or sings Christmas carols while plowing? Now that’s a holiday upgrade.
3. Heated Everything
   Heated gloves. Heated socks. Heated tractor seats. Heated pitchfork handles (why not?). Farmers will work in any weather, but warm fingers and toes would definitely make spirits bright.
4. A Weather Forecast That Never Changes Last-Minute
   A snowstorm that turns into rain, then ice, then “just kidding—snow again” is a classic New York move. A little stability in the forecast would make planning the week’s chores feel almost… merry.
5. Calves That Only Decide to Be Born During Daylight Hours
   Farmers welcome new life any time it arrives—but it’s hard to deny that a 2 p.m. calf is just a bit more festive than a 2 a.m. one.
6. A Bottomless Supply of Cookies for the Crew
   Christmas cookies are fuel for the season. Enough said.
7. And of course… Happy, Healthy Animals All Winter Long
   If farmers could only choose one wish, this would be it. Cozy barns, full feed bunks, clean bedding, and calm animals bring all the holiday joy a farmer needs.
