Women farmers are shaping the future of agriculture every day—planting, harvesting, innovating, and leading
with resilience and care. As the United Nations celebrates the International Year of the Woman Farmer, we have an opportunity to both honor and learn from the women who play a vital role in feeding our communities. From managing farms and preserving natural resources to strengthening families and rural communities, women farmers drive progress across rural America.
For the next 12 months, we will be highlighting 12 women that are NY farmers, shining a light on the difference they make and the reason they do what they do.
Meet Natasha Stein
Stein Farms LLC and Boulder Farm LLC – We sit in the northeast corner of Genesee County in the town of Le Roy. We are a family farm with our business including my parents, uncle, brother, cousin and husband. Across both operations we have 1800 mature animals. 2026 is going to be a big year with a new rotary parlor!
Why I farm is so multifaceted. I am a proud animal owner, and I value my ability to be with these beautiful girls day in and day out. I am proud to be a farm owner and to have that stewardship role of not only the animals but the land we raise their feed on. I (most of the time) love working with family – and so much of my extended family is also in agriculture – keeping that legacy of the generations that came before me.
Farming is a lifestyle. It is a choice to work 60 plus hours a week. To teach our kids the value of a work ethic is so much reward in itself. Also – a large farm is still a family farm! Growth of a farm from your mental red barn image to a modern sleek facility means we can care for our cows better!
